Levy Lupu
Levy moved to the UK from Romania when he was 17. Full time fish out of water he’s been in over his head ever since. He’s packed boxes in warehouses, poured drinks in some of London’s swankiest 5 star venues, and pretended he knew how to operate tills in the city’s world of retail. He’s always been ‘a few steps behind’ and learned on the job; whatever the ‘job’ was. Then he found stand up comedy and the world finally seems to make sense.
On stage Levy looks like a random Romanian guy who turned up to the wrong event in a suit. Like he’s about to give a TED talk no one asked for. But a very funny Romanian guy. Awkward, loveable, nerdy outsider, who clearly doesn’t know what the vibe is, but he leans into it. Hilariously. His comedy is dry, low energy, darkish, and satisfyingly different and honest. Think life storytelling with a few raised eyebrows and a smirk. He chats about messing up since he arrived in England, not realising he could actually have got further away from his home country but didn’t realise Ireland was a thing. And how he accidentally got engaged to his current girlfriend (now fiancee) by buying her spring onions which he thought were daffodils. And about how he’s (sort of) learned from all of it. His material comes from growing up in deprivation in a small town in Northern Romania, dealing with identity, always being the underdog, and trying to fathom out a country that still confuses him on a daily basis. His comedy arising from it is deliciously endearing, with one reviewer writing “while his act is based on a life full of difficult experiences he comes across as silly, likeable and heartwarming.”
Levy hosts his own podcast show Borderline Podcast Disorder, as he was diagnosed with it himself and chats candidly about life with a wide range of guests. Named ‘One to watch’ by JW3 and having made it to the heats of British Comedian of the Year, things are slowly happening for this immensely kind, modest, empathic, clever & witty chap.
